Laboratory counter tops are available in many materials – epoxy resin, phenolic resin, stainless, plastic laminate, chemical resistant laminates, solid surface, granite, wood butcher block and more. The most common are epoxy resin, phenolic resin and stainless steel for their durability and chemical resistance.
Epoxy resin and phenolic resin are most commonly used in laboratories for their heat and chemical resistance. They are available in many standard colors and thicknesses depending on your application and budget. Colors enhance the professionalism of your lab space and improve employee satisfaction. Epoxy resin and phenolic resin have battled for the preferred laboratory counter top position in the lab industry. Epoxy still reigns but the gap is closing. They both have excellent chemical resistance. Epoxy is slightly better on the harshest acids and where standing water is likely. Phenolic is lighter, easier to install and slightly less expensive. Phenolic resin makes a great dry chemistry, analytical, computer workstation and equipment cart counter top material because it still meets stringent lab requirements for most lab applications.
